The noise seemed far away, but was getting closer, louder, faster. Fehan opened his eyes, and everything was red. It went dark, and there was the noise again. Everything went red, then dark again. It took him some seconds to understand - red alert. He realized he was floating near the ceiling and he was disoriented because the gravity coils were offline. He spun himself until he touched the ceiling, and pushed himself towards the floor.
His feet touched the floor, but in the absecence of weight, he bounced and pushed himself towards the hatch. He looked around, but there was no one else in the bunker. He missed the hatch, and bounced on the wall and ceiling. He pushed himself down again (“down?” he thought to himself) and grabbed the hatch. He moved himself to the right position, but then saw the hatch seal - it was pressure sealed.
He knew what it meant - the other side was depressurized. He had to get out, but he had no idea what was going on. An attack was surely possible, could it be a drill? His head was bleeding, and it meant he hit his head hard. That seemed like explosion, not drill.
There were pressure suits in the back of the bunker, so he pushed himself and floated there, slowly. As he moved, he saw that most of the stuff was lumped in the forward ceiling corner. To him, it meant the ship had a slight negative yaw rotation - it was tumbling uncontrolled. He found the suits, chose the smallest one, and had to fiddle with its arms and gloves, still too big for him.
As he put a helmet on, he activated its comm system. It was silent, and there was not even the tone indicating he had a connection. He decided he wouldn’t go into long range. He locked the pressure seals in his suit, and turned on its magnetic boots. He found the life support panel, and the pressure controls. He depressurized the bunker, and watched a fruit explode in the ceiling, right as the hatch released its pressure seal. The room was completely silent now - the lights were still flashing, but there was no sound anymore. He rolled the hatch open.
He stepped into the hallways, lit only by the alert lights, and watched a metallic cylinder slowly rolling across the ceiling. It confirmed his theory about the rotation of the ship. There seemed to be no power on life support, hatches were all opened, and the arms lockers were empty.
He took a deep breath as he understood what had happened - they had evacuated the ship. He went up one deck, and walked around a corner to find a body floating near the ceiling. He walked boward, and his imagination raced ahead of him - he knew what he’d find. And in the intermittent alarm lights, he saw them. There were at least six, one asai and five qass, floating in the ceiling. He turned around and made his way to the hangar bays, but in a corner he saw another body on the ceiling. It was Ponje.
Fehan lost his breath, and would’ve fallen if there were gravity. He floated, in dismay, for half an hour, before he decided to push onward.
